I looked at a tutorial online to do this, it used splines to create the eye lids and a circle for the eye itself. For pupil I used photoshop to create this and then added it as a material (as its the summer I don't really want to call up my tutors).

Trying out eyes
I thought I would try out eyes and blinking since I didn't do it on any of my briefs and as most characters have eyes its probably best I do. I used cinema 4D and tested out the extrude tool to created the rabbit. It is a simple character as I was purely just wanting to try eyes.

U'rine
Back to 3D!! For my final animation for first year I am going to do 3D, as much as I love traditional animation I want to give it a try.
I am surprised with this as I thought I would be more interested in drawing out the frames, that is what I was always into but since doing this course I have been more drawn towards 3D. I also think its a good idea as it gets me more developed in cinema 4D.
A few ideas for this animation:
First was to do a young girl called Gabby, I am inspired by Tim Burton (As most animators are) and thought I would make her a bit creepy but still cute. Not sure if I achieved that but here she is...
Once I started to create her in cinema 4D I wasn't entirely happy, she is more of a drawn character rather than 3D.
Next I just went straight into cinema 4D, created a circle for a head and then used the body I had created for Gabby and started playing around with the tools. The character I have created wasn't pre planned he just came out as I was trying the extrude tools.
After adding these colours I wasnt 100% happy so looked in the cinema 4d textures and found a nice one for the goggles. And I used a paintbrush from photoshop for the pattern on his coat.
Here is the animation I made - again as all work I could add more to make it better but that's what experimenting is all about and tests. I am not sure why I added all the shapes and the ending of this, it again was testing movements of things. And also sound would be good!

E4 Ident
We have been given the opportunity to create an E4 ident to submit to the competition.
I think this is a great opportunity to get my work out there, even if it doesn't win it will be seen by many people! Another thought is I can try out my cinema 4d skills and learn a few more along the way.
We have been given 10 sound beds and the logo and then time to experiment. I researched a few of the past idents and they don't really seem to make much sense, as in they don't really have a story behind them. I sketched out a few ideas, such as doing a landscape of England, making images of Stonehenge, the angel of the north, the guards with the big black hats etc adding the logo to his face. Another idea was to have a street with graffiti on it and random shapes coming from the bottom of the street up to the camera and the E4 shooting out amongst the shapes, a third idea I had was to have an ocean and mountain and have an explosion and the E4 come shooting out from behind the mountains and land in the water and bob like a buoy.
In the end I chose non of those ideas. After experimenting with paint brushes from Brush King I found a few I liked and came up with a wall for my animation. I still wanted to use the idea of a street so tried a few wall textures like bricks until I was happy with one. I added a few of the paintbrushes to add 'graffiti' to the wall. Then I tried a few techniques with the logo like the explode tool in cinema 4d. This is the first time i've used this tool and enjoyed trying it out.
After doing two idents with that tool I tried to make it more interesting and added some mushrooms to it! The reason for the mushrooms was I had been talking about nintendo with a friend and talking about yoshi and mushroom and then it made me want to come up with my own little mushroom guy. Pretty simple reasoning to why I added the mushroom! Here are the videos I did....

Morph
This project is testing out a morph. We were given two images, mine was a rhino and a tank, we had a certain amount of frames to complete the morph. I traced the rhino and the tank making those the first and last frames and then used the light box and peg to draw out the in between frames. Then used Dragon to take the pictures and made it into a quicktime movie.
I am happy with how mine turned out, I am sure the lines could be a lot cleaner but for a task that we had 10 minutes to do I think it's good.
For the final video I put the quicktime movie into photoshop and opened it as layers like I did with the cut out animation. I tried out a few textures with in photoshop like plastic and then put the video into premier pro to add sound...
Germalot!
For my second project I am using Cinema 4D. We have learned about pose to pose and 2.5 D animation. The brief is to make a 2.5 D animation so I am going to combine the two. I have decided to do a story about a germ.
The story is a person sneezing and the germ landing on a newspaper. The newspapers front page is a warning about a new bug that is going around and very contagious. The germ comes to life and starts exploring the house. He comes across two dolls who are disgusted by him (not sure of many people who do like snots :/) but he doesn't like their reaction and turns into an evil germ. He then takes one of the dolls. Once he is done he continues on his adventure through this new world and comes across a dog. The dog barks as he doesn't know what it is, this again angers the germ so he turns evil. He scares the dog and continues to crawl on. Unfortunately for him it was one crawl too much, he gets squished by someone walking into the room. And if you notice i've added a little bit of Canada in there ;)
I hand drew all the assets and then added them on planes in cinema 4D, for the eyes I used pose to pose. I did this by using the timeline in cinema 4d and then adding in each material and using 'make visible' and 'hiding' each frame to create the blinks. To add the sound I used premier pro.
For this animation the things I would have changed is the sound design and also the transitions. I would change the first transition from when he lands on the newspaper to a slide or fade out, I don't think the one I put in goes well (now that I look back on it). I also think the timing for some scenes could be worked in and the ending when the end title comes up, I wanted the foot to be completely gone but it didn't work out that way after I rendered. So yes a few things I would change....

My First Project - Cut out animation
For my first animation I was quite interested in the cut out/shadow puppet techniques that we learned about such as the ones by Lotte Reiniger and wanted to try it out for my self.
I decided to go for the black card and split pin style.
I made the character out of black card and printed of an image of an eye and taped it to the back of the head. I had to use a few parts to make sure there was plenty movement. The parts I used were head, upper body, waist, two parts for arms and two parts for legs, hands, feet and toes. I also coloured the split pins in black to go with the card. When I was researching on characters I liked the look of the one eyed monster and once I had drawn him out I realised I had given it a 50's style, must be all the black and white old cartoons I like coming through.
The brief was to make a movement in 12 frames so I decided to use jump. In order to get this movement I used a camera from college and took images of my cousin jumping up and back down. To transfer this to the character I used dragon to take the pictures and used a box from college with had clear shelves on so I put the picture of my cousin on the bottom shelf and lined up my character. Once the character was in place I removed the photograph and took the image. I liked using Dragon as you can use the scroll bar on Dragon so you can see the previous image and line it up with the next one. It worked out great for the jump because I could line up the feet. This was then made into a quicktime video. I then used photoshop to make it into animation. As he was an alien I thought it best to add a spaceship so I drew one and scanned it into photoshop. I fixed up the lines and coloured it. I then opened the quicktime movie into photoshop which turned it into layers meaning each frame I had to move the spaceship so it would move through out the whole animation. I then wanted to make the animation in a field but when I was researching images I came across a road and liked it, tried it, and thought I'll use that one!
I am not 100% happy with the final result, but who is with their first animation. I had meant to go back and adjust things but I thought it might be good to keep it as it is and look back at it to see my progress through out the course.
